What exactly is Texaco HDAX 9500 SAE 40?

Texaco HDAX 9500 SAE 40 is a premium performance extended drain gas engine oil developed for gas engines operating on landfill gas, biogas, digester gas, and sour gas applications. It is also suitable for selected natural gas applications.

The oil is a dispersant/detergent-type lubricant formulated using premium base oils with very low sulphur, nitrogen, and aromatic content. It also incorporates ashless dispersants, oxidation inhibitors, metallic detergents, and anti-wear additives to help protect against oxidation, corrosion, wear, scuffing, and harmful deposits.

Which engines is it designed for?

Texaco HDAX 9500 SAE 40 is intended for use in four-stroke gas engines running on:

  • Landfill gas, including gas with high chlorofluorocarbon or siloxane content
  • Biogas
  • Digester gas
  • Sour gas
  • Selected natural gas applications

How does it help extend engine life?

The formulation offers oxidation and nitration resistance while maintaining its base number, helping support extended drain intervals and compatibility with very low oil feed rate engines.

It also helps to provide effective piston deposit control, helping protect against cylinder liner scuffing and abrasive wear, contributing to a longer engine service life.

What operational advantages does it offer?

The oil's dispersant and detergent system is designed to reduce oil thickening, minimise sludge formation, and help prevent filter plugging. In addition, its low phosphorus additive formulation means it can be used with catalyst systems.

Has the product received manufacturer approvals?

Yes – Texaco HDAX 9500 SAE 40 has been tested and approved by several leading gas engine manufacturers, including:

  • Jenbacher TA 1000-1109 – Approved for Fuel Class B (biogas and sewage gas) and Fuel Class C (landfill gas), covering Type 2, Type 3, Type 4 (Versions A, B and D), and Type 6 (Versions C and E) engines.
  • MAN Truck & Bus M 3271-5¹ – Universally approved for natural gas and special gas applications, including engines equipped with catalytic converter systems.
  • TEDOM 61-0-0281.1 – Approved for natural gas (G), propane-butane (P), landfill gas (L), biogas (B), and sewage gas (S).

Why should operators consider Texaco HDAX 9500 SAE 40?

Using a high-quality gas engine lubricant is an important part of an effective maintenance strategy. Texaco HDAX 9500 SAE 40 is formulated to reduce deposits, minimise wear, and maintain oil performance over extended drain intervals, helping operators reduce maintenance costs while supporting reliable engine operation.

Where can I find out more?

¹MAN approval number TUC 1849/21. Gas engine oils meeting specification M3271-5 can be used universally for natural gas and special gas applications, including engines with catalytic converters. MAN recommends switching to products meeting the M3271-5 specification.
