Renaud van der Haegen
Distributor Manager

Length of time in business: 11 years
Based in: Belgium

What experience do you have?

I have worked in the lubricants industry for more than 11 years, with previous roles in the automotive sector working with major OEMs.

What do you believe Texaco has to offer customers?

I believe what makes Texaco a strong brand is the complete package that we offer to customers.  It is not just our high-quality products, we also have a proven track record for excellent customer service and technical teams who are willing to share their expertise and help the customer grow their business.

What is your most rewarding project to date?

I have been working with a team in Morocco to develop the export business within the 15 French speaking countries in Africa. Today, more than half of the countries are onboard with an experienced local partner, winning several very important customers in their regions, and all this amidst the challenges brought about by the pandemic.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing the industry at the moment?

I would say that supply chain and product availability is still extremely difficult to manage in manyregions. This is where close relationships with customers is vital, as we can maintain open andhonest lines of communication.

Who do you most admire and why?

From a brand perspective, I would say that Red Bull, as a relatively young company, has established an incredible level of brand awareness. Their focus on sponsorship for such a wide variety of sports, as a way to draw customers of all ages, is an interesting and clever use of branding.

What piece of advice would you give to someone starting out in your industry?

In my experience what initially really differentiates good salespeople is their product knowledge.  Thereafter, building customer relationships, through trust and outstanding customer service, is what allows you to maintain those relationships going forward.

What behaviour or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?

I pride myself on my honesty and customer-focused approach. I am always looking to find the best solution to meet their requirements.  Going the extra mile and providing straightforward advice and guidance has definitely contributed to both my success and professional satisfaction.
