About Richard

South African born Richard Murray won the Junior Duathlon World Championships in 2007 and 2008 and U23 African Championships in both triathlon and duathlon in 2010, firmly establishing himself as a name to watch.  Richard scored his first WTS win in Hamburg in 2012 and went on to podium twice more that same season, before finishing an impressive 4th at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.

Ranked in the top five triathletes globally for the past five years, Richard’s goal was to win the World Triathlon Series 2020 and gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, but due to a previously undiagnosed heart condition, Richard was forced to pull out of both competitions.

2021 was a monumental year for Richard, not least because of his marriage to fellow triathlete and Texaco Lubricants ambassador Rachel Klamer.  Back on track with a full race schedule set for 2022, Richard has also announced a big change both personally and professionally having taken the decision to become a Dutch national.  Richard will continue to pursue his ambitions, racing under the Dutch Triathlon Federation.

The 2022 season will see Richard racing the Europe Triathlon Championships in August, the World Triathlon Cup in September, and the IRONMAN 70.3 Sardegna in Sardinia in October.
